    Ancestral Veneration

    “I call to those
    whose blood runs through me.
    My fathers and mothers,
    my guides and guardians,
    and those whose spirits
    helped to shape me.”

    On this night of all nights, when the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest, we honor those who have gone on before:

    the beloved ancestors.

    Learning the history of our ancestors helps us gain a greater understanding of the challenges they faced, and it often inspires greater love and compassion for their flaws and mistakes. This compassion can easily translate to our relationships with the living, within our families and outside them.

    By setting up an ancestor shrine or altar, you can honor the people of your bloodline–your kinfolk and clansmen who have helped to shape the person you are.

    An ancestor altar is a place to join forces with your special loved ones and to work together in spell crafting, divination, shadow workings, past life explorations, and anything else to help you reach your goals. It’s always nice to have a support system in your spiritual practice and what better people to connect than with your ancestors! Having a shared space with your ancestors helps them to feel welcome to offer guidance and assistance if needed.

    Join Melinda and Jeremy as we prepare and guide you in creating your own ancestors altar and participate in  “Ancestor Circle”.

    During our Circle we will invite your loved ones to join our space so that you may converse with them, share memories, make a small request or simply enjoy the energies of your dearly departed.

    The veneration of the dead, is based on love and respect for the deceased.

    In some cultures, it is related to beliefs that the dead have a continued existence, and may possess the ability to influence and bless the living. The intimate relationship between the living and dead is a complex and multifaceted exercise of remembrance, respect and reconciliation.

    HooDoo Spirit Tree

    It’s a conjuring night at Melinda’s Enchanted Cottage as we explore the origins and history of the Hoodoo Spirit Tree
    Hoodoo is a spiritual tradition that emerged in the southern United States out of a multicultural melting pot of
    slavery, poverty, and oppression. Hoodoo is a mixture of African practices, Native American influence, and
    European Christian folk practices. Hoodoo has a long history of being tied to class struggle, hardship, and looking to
    one’s ancestors in trying times.
    Legend has it that empty glass bottles placed outside the home in trees, gardens, or tied to porches could “capture”
    Malevolent spirits, on the prowl during the night. These spirits enter the bottles where they become trapped by an
    ‘encircling charm.’ It is said that when the wind blows past the tree, you can hear the moans of the ensnared spirits
    whistling on the breeze. Come morning they are burnt up by the rising sun.
    Come and join Melinda and Jeremy for a night of folklore, traditions and Magick as we craft our very own Hoodoo
    Spirit trees. Melinda’s Enchanted Cottage will supply all the materials and you will work your intention and Magick.

    Make and Take VooDoo Dolls

    When most people picture a voodoo doll, they think of Hollywood movies with witch doctors, black magic and painful pins. If we explored voodoo deeper, however, we would find a rich and diverse spiritual practice. We would see that voodoo dolls are not instruments of evil. Rather, they are instruments of intent.

    There are many types of voodoo dolls for all purposes, such as love, healing, empowerment, guidance, fertility or cursing. Some dolls are made into talismans or even teaching aids for children.

    Join Melinda’s Enchanted Cottage on a spiritual journey into the religious practice of Voodoo.

    Our main focus and activity for this workshop will be the construction, uses, history and corespondents used while creating your very own Voodoo Doll.

    All supplies will be provided by Melinda’s Enchanted Cottage as well as information sheets to introduce you into Voodoo and all the Magick that surrounds this old tradition and new world blend.

    Join Melinda’s Enchanted Cottage for an evening of Crafting as we create Voodoo Shakers to help develop and
    enhance your intuitive nature within your life.
    Tonight you will experience a little Haitian Vodou and Louisiana Voodoo. Jeremy and Melinda will take you on a
    journey through a melting pot of magical history and together we will combine the ways of old and new to create
    your very own Voodoo Shaker.
    Take sometime to create your intention, and we will personalize your Voodoo Shaker that evening. All supplies
    needed for this night of crafting will be provided by Melinda’s Enchanted Cottage.
    Join us and learn this unique culture of Magick, we will dive into spirits, saints, ancestors and Loa (spirits of Haitian
    Vodou).
